Set among the ponderosa pines of Flagstaff, the Dunlap Residence uses Ground Face CMU in Ebony to carve functional outdoor living space from a challenging hillside site. Tiered retaining walls step up the slope in clean, dark courses — structurally resolving significant grade changes while creating garden terraces, a paver motor court, and a sheltered backyard. Built by Ricardo’s Masonry, the execution is tight: consistent coursing, clean corners, and smooth transitions between elevation changes that make a complex site feel effortless.
