In-N-Out Burger’s Flagstaff location sits on a graded site along one of the city’s busiest corridors, and the Split Face Ebony CMU retaining wall that runs the site perimeter does more design work than retaining walls typically get credit for. The dark, textured surface ties the site to the building’s own masonry tower, creating a material continuity from the street edge up through the structure. Sierra Masonry installed the wall with clean coursing through the curved sections, and the Ebony finish has held its color against Flagstaff’s freeze-thaw cycles since completion in 2024.
