DLR Group organized Killip Elementary’s exterior around a three-material system that gives the single-story building a clear hierarchy from base to roofline. Split Face Stone CMU runs along the lower portion of the facade, its rough texture grounding the building to the site, while Smooth block in a lighter tone carries the upper walls and gives the large classroom wing a clean, airy read from the street. A natural stone veneer marks the entry condition, shifting the material register at the moment of arrival. The San Francisco Peaks form a direct backdrop from the main approach, and the material palette holds its own against that context without competing with it.
