John Reddell Architects gave this Ocean Blue Car Wash a more considered material palette than the format typically sees. Split Face and Smooth Face CMU in San Diego Buff and Harvest Gold run the full building envelope, the two tones shifting between the main tower volume and the wash tunnel wing to give each a distinct read while keeping the palette cohesive. The split face columns and pilasters add texture and rhythm along the tunnel facade, breaking down a building type that often reads as a single flat wall from the street. AP Global and BMF Masonry delivered clean coursing throughout, and the CMU shell handles the constant moisture exposure of a car wash environment far better than most alternative cladding systems would.
