For more than 125 years the Lowell Observatory has been at the center of astronomical research, exploration, discovery, and education. The Lowell Observatory has been the home of monumental scientific discoveries like the evidence of an expanding universe, the dwarf planet Pluto, and lunar mapping used for the Apollo missions. In addition to conducting current scientific research, the Lowell Observatory is committed to providing quality education opportunities for the Flagstaff community. To continue the ongoing efforts of public education, the Lowell Observatory is constructing The Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation Astronomy Discovery Center at Lowell Observatory.

What is Block-Lite’s role in this Lowell Observatory construction project?

Construction on The Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation Astronomy Discovery Center at Lowell Observatory has begun, and the 40,000 square-foot discovery center is scheduled to open in 2024. The discovery center aims to provide state-of-the-art astronomy experiences like a 180-guest Universe Theater, Curiosity Zone for children, and the Dark Sky Planetarium. Block-Lite is proud to be involved with such an impactful and essential project that will benefit the Flagstaff community. The discovery center will feature 80,000 Block-Lite units ranging in various colors and textures. Flagstaff has a long history of important scientific discoveries in the field of Astronomy and in providing education to members of the community. The completion of The Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation Astronomy Discovery Center at Lowell Observatory will continue that tradition for many generations to come! In addition to the state-of-the-art astronomy experiences already mentioned, the discovery center will also house multiple gallery spaces, classroom and conference room spaces, two outdoor patios and a skylight terrace, a cafe, and a gift shop in a unique multi-level, radius architectural design.
